The Kid Can Swim! Spot learns to swim part II
We took little Spotty up to Bear Lake for more swimming fun. Bear Lake is great because it stays shallow for a long time and he can run along the bottom chasing sticks. I think he is starting to like full on swimming. He would paddle for a while and then turn towards one of us to pick him up when he needed a break.

We may have had something to do with his level of muddiness in the above photo.
Spot learns how to swim, part one
The other day we took our new raft and spot over to Porcupine Reservoir for the day. Spot loves the water but has always been too afraid to actually swim. We decided it was time that he learn so with a doggie life vest and our coaxing we gave him his first swimming lessons. The life vest is for our rafting trips but not because he needs it swimming.
HOWLiday Party
I had so much fun photographing dogs at Mountain View Veterinary Health Center a few days ago. Here are a few of my favorite images from the shoot. Prepare to die from cuteness overload!
Spot turns 2!
Today was a big day. Spot’s Birthday!!!! The little guy turned 2 years old today and it’s been exactly one year since I took him home from the Cache Humane Society. We started out the day with a trip into the canyon. Spot came to work with me as we looked for fly fishermen in the mountains. He got some good views of all the fall foliage happening now.
After work, Spot had some playtime with Sammy.
Unfortunately for Spot, during his time in the mountains he decided to roll in a big pile of cow poo. Of course that meant bath time which Spot thought was a very rude thing to do to him on his birthday! As we got the water ready, Spot sulked in the corner and complained the whole time.
He suffered through it.
He got over bath time pretty fast after being toweled off.
After bath time, Spot’s birthday festivities continued when his best friend, Bear, decided to swing by. Bear is a tiny terrier that lives near us and always escapes his backyard to come visit Spot. We let Sammy off his lead and it was party time!
After playtime, Bear went home and we came inside for dinner, presents, and cake. And yes… the dogs wore party hats.
Spotty had the best birthday a dog could wish for. He is currently passed out on the living room chair where he will probably remain until tomorrow morning.
PoochPalooza and our new honorary pup
It’s Friday! I look forward to Doggie Love Fridays because I know I’ll always have something to post. Over the weekend we took Spot to a local dog event called PoochPalooza. We stayed for nearly 4 hours and Spot was on stimulation overdrive. The event was hosted by a local agility group and had demonstrations along with the ability to try the equipment with your dog.
Spot did great on the equipment, especially the tunnels.
He also made lots of new friends. Here he is with Murphy.
We took him across the river for a bit of quiet time where naturally we dressed him up in his bandana.
It was fun and made me wish there were more fun things we could do with Spot around here. And now for our guest dog today, I would like to introduce our new honorary pup Sammy who moved in next door.
I asked if we could let the dogs play and his family said yes, so now Spot has a new bestie to hand out with!!
“Oh, I wish I were a farmer’s dog”
We took Spot to an area of the valley where the county is proposing to put the new landfill. Such a shame because it is gorgeous there. We walked down a dirt road and Spot displayed boundless energy running through all the farmers’ fields that lined the road.
Spot came out of some brush covered in prickers which he had us pull out for him.
Ouch!
Spot loved this place. We even made up a song (MASSIVE DORKS!) which goes a little something like this:
“I wish I were a farmer’s dog,
I would run and play in the fields all day
I would chase the horses through the hay,
Oh…I wish…I were…a..farmer’s….Dogggggg”
Everybody Loves the Beach
It’s Doggie Love Friday! I need a slap on the wrist for not posting more this week but there is no way I would miss posting on Spot’s day. Today will be photos of all the good times Spot had on vacation in Oregon. He had a blast and loved every minute of it! He wanted his photo taken at every fun place we went to. Here he is at the Astoria Lighthouse and again at Multnoma Falls.
Spot was absolutely enamored with the beach and ocean. He loved the sand, water, waves, seagulls, smells, and all the other dogs running around.
Here we think he looks like a little sea creature jumping up to snag a unsuspecting bird.
Look Ma, Friends!
Spot is a pretty athletic dog except when it comes to catching a ball. He sure tries hard though.
He had a blast imitating others. Here his is in his diving pose.
And again imitating a seal.
And stalking some seagulls on the cliffs of Cape Lookout.
Hey Look! I see some! I’m gonna get you!
I could stay here forever! Why don’t we live on the beach?
Holy Jeepers that was a lot of photos. I think Spot was a bit disappointed when the fun ended and we headed back home. He’s already excited for next year’s vacation. Oh where to go?

Doggie Love Friday
I have an obsession and it’s getting worse. Just ask any of my friends of Facebook and they will tell you that the number of photos I post of my dog is absurd. I just can’t help it! I want to share his cuteness with the world. In an attempt to make myself look less crazy, I’ve decided to have a weekly post dedicated to Spot in all his glory. I assume that with a time and place for my dog photos I will appear more normal? I am dedicating Friday as Doggie Love day on my blog and here is the first installment.
A little while ago, we took a trip to Antelope Island at the Great Salt Lake. The trip was….memorable. After driving around for a bit, we decided to check out one of the beaches. There was nobody there which was confusing because it looked great! We parked and started the hike down to the water. It was probably close to 90 degrees outside and as we got closer to the beach we realized why it was deserted. It smelled like rot, there was a ridiculous amount of bugs there, and the water was hot. The sand was so hot that it burned Spot’s little paws and we had to carry him down to the water. Once we got in the water for a bit, however, it turned out to be pretty fun. I think we’re even going to go back once it starts to cool off this summer.
My poor little paws are on fire!
Somebody turned grouchy for a bit.
But we got him to turn that frown around

Lots of hugs and kisses to finish up the day.

Hooray For Blogging!
Well Hello There! Welcome to my brand spanking new blog. This is the first of what I hope to be daily posts centered around my life and photography. It’s been a long time coming as I’ve been meaning to start this for years now. I am more than excited to dive into the world of blogging!
A few fun facts to help us become better acquainted:
- My name is Jenn. I am in my later 20s and a transplant to Northern Utah. I spent the past 2 years floating around Montana, Arizona, and New York before settling down for a bit here.
- My day job is that of a staff photographer for a daily newspaper where I cover everything you can imagine.
- I reside in a tiny apartment with my wonderful boyfriend, Matt, Border Collie, Spot, (see above) and Siamese cat, Spartacus.
- I am a country girl at heart. In my spare time you will find me snapping photos of EVERYTHING whilst spending quality time with mother nature.
I’m not entirely certain of what this blog will evolve into but I sure hope you come back again to check it out.
Jenn
